A fine pair of early George III Gainsborough chairs in well-carved mahogany of excellent colour and patina, covered in a gold silk damask and with carved shaped arms, standing on acanthus-carved cabriole legs terminating in a scroll toes above hexagonal blocks with recessed castors.
This elegant pair of chairs is strongly influenced by the fashionable Rococo designs of Thomas Chippendale and bear resemblance to his sketches for seat furniture in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
