A George II walnut kneehole desk or dressing table, the feather and cross-banded quartered caddy top above one long and six short drawers flanking a central recessed cupboard enclosing shaped shelves, the sides similarly banded; the whole raised on bracket feet and retaining original brassware.
The lip-moulded drawers, thin-railed second-phase construction, bracket feet and cove-moulded base and ovolo bead-moulded top suggest a date for this desk of 1730-1740. The handles and escutcheons, which are the original, are of a type unlikely to have been used after 1740.
This kneehole is of exceptional colour and patina. The continuation of the ovolo bead moulding on the front corners is a refinement and the caddy top a rare feature, much sought after by collectors.
